Moving in Abu Dhabi felt like a dream come true. It was happening at the right time— I wanted to leave my previous job, explore a new city, and live my version of the perfect “independent working girl” life.
I had everything pretty much figured out— except the reality.
At first, I was mesmerized by everything: the architecture, the culture, the malls, the food, the sense of security. I felt safe and ready to take on whatever challenges came my way. With a new job and a fresh start in a city where no one knew me, I had the freedom to reinvent myself, to become whoever I wanted to be.
But a few months in, things started to look different. I was far from my family and friends, working remotely with little real interaction with colleagues, and navigating relationships with people from completely different backgrounds. I felt alienated and… depressed.
I’ve had my share of struggles with depression, but this time, it hit differently. Being in Abu Dhabi, alone, was overwhelming. It took time to find my place and rebuild my life.
That’s something no one truly understands until they move to a new country on their own. And that’s one of the reasons I created WonderIn. Moving to a new place is a journey— but you don’t have to go through it alone.
There are communities out there to help you settle, and I hope this space can be one of them.
So, in a nutshell—welcome. It’s so nice to meet you.
The best is yet to come.
E.
